What is a deep cleaning?
A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) removes plaque and tartar from below the gumline and smooths the root surfaces so gums can reattach and heal.
Does a deep cleaning hurt?
We numb the area so you are comfortable during treatment. Some tenderness afterward is normal and usually fades within a few days.
How is this different from a regular cleaning?
A regular cleaning treats the teeth above the gumline for healthy patients. A deep cleaning treats infection below the gumline when gum disease is present.
